Activists Demand To Unblock Charter'97 Near Belarusian Embassy In Brussels

A picket in support of the independent website was held in the Belgian capital.

Belarusian activist from Brussels Dzianis Kazakevich informed about this via Facebook.

The activists handed out leaflets with the information about the blockage of Charter'97 and the ways to bypass the block to the people who were passing by the Embassy, and to the Embassy's employees coming in and out.

Also, the participants of the action placed posters "Freedom of Information!" with a picture of rats biting through the Internet wires, on the Embassy's fence. There were also posters "Stop Censorship In Internet In Belarus!" and "I Am Charter'97".

One of the picketers recited a poem mocking the Belarusian authorities and their desire to limit the freedom of speech.

The activists tried to enter the Embassy to voice their demands to the Belarusian Ambassador, but the guards did not let them in. According to Dzianis Kazakevich, the Belarusian Ambassador earlier promised to meet with the activists and listen to them.

At the end of the picket, Dzianis Kazakevich said: "I want to express my solidarity with the journalists of Charter'97. The attack on Charter is a big attack on the freedom of speech in Belarus. But at the same time - this is the reason for all of us to unite. The representatives of practically all democratic forces of Belarus signed under the letter of Natallia Radzina to the EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn. Now almost everyone can protest. Bypassing the Charter'97 blockage, you are already undermining the Belarusian regime. Bypass the block, help your friends do it. Take a photo and video of solidarity "I am Charter'97." Every voice, every effort is very important. Now, a red flag is waving over the Belarusian Embassy to Belgium behind my back. But we can all do so that instead of it there will be our national white-red-white flag. And all of us will be able to freely read independent media. Let's all strive for this! ".
