Charter’97 Editor-In-Chief Natallia Radzina Awarded With BPR Medal
Natallia Radzina

This is a state award.

On February 19, in Warsaw, Editor-in-Chief of the Charter97.org website Natallia Radzina was awarded with a medal to the centenary of the Belarusian People's Republic.

The award was presented by the representative of the BPR Rada, deputy director of Belsat TV channel Aliaksei Dzikavitski.

“By the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Belarusian People’s Republic, the BPR Rada for the first time has decided to establish a medal, which is awarded not only to Belarusians, but also to people working in the field of Belarusianity, popularizing the Belarusian idea in the world - to all those who can be called devoted to the ideals of March 25, 1918, the ideals of a free, democratic, independent Belarus.

There will be 130 such medals in the world, they will be awarded in different countries. It so happened that the presentation of the medals began in Poland. The first medal was received by the widow of the outstanding Belarusian historian Yury Turonak. Unfortunately, he was awarded posthumously.

The first living person to receive this medal has become Natallia Radzina, the Editor-in-Chief of the Charter’97. The BPR Rada is very appreciative of the merits of Natallia and the portal she manages. One can love or dislike Charter’97, but the fact that hundreds of thousands of people daily learn about the current situation in Belarus precisely because of this portal is indisputable.

And in such a difficult situation, in which today, unfortunately, the Charter’97 happened to be, we decided to speed up this award - in order to support the Charter.

The BPR Council has already made a statement in support of Charter’97, but we hope that the awarding ceremony itself will draw attention to the situation around the Charter where it is needed, and the website will continue to work and fulfill its extremely important mission. ” - said Aliaksei Dzikavitski when presenting the award.

After this, the decree of the Chairperson of the BPR Rada Ivonka Survila on awarding Natallia Radzina, the Editor-in-Chief of the Charter’97, with a medal, was read out.

“It is a great honor for me to receive this medal from the BPR Rada. The Belarusian People’s Republic remains a symbol of our independence and freedom.

I know that the Rada of the Ukrainian People’s Republic has transferred its powers to the government of independent Ukraine.

In Belarus, unfortunately, today it is impossible. Lukashenka’s regime is illegitimate. I perceive this medal as a state award and I think that this award is for the whole team of the Charter’97. Thanks especially for supporting us in such a difficult time, when solidarity is needed for both the Charter and the whole free word of Belarus,” said Natallia Radzina.

The belarusian government in exile presents the BPR medal to the centenary of the Belarusian People's Republic “for lifetime achievements in work for accomplishing the ideals of the Act of March 25, 1918, including research and popularization of the Belarusian language, gaining and strengthening the state independence of Belarus, the struggle for freedom and democracy in Belarus”.

According to the decree of the BPR Rada on awarding a medal, during 2019 130 people from Belarus and abroad will receive it. The decree was signed on December 24, 2018 by Chairperson of the BPR Rada Ivonka Survila.

On February 18, outstanding historian Yury Turonak was posthumously awarded with the BPR medal. The award was presented to his widow, Zinaida Turonak.

The medal, among others, will be given to writer Uladzimir Arlou, Swedish Ambassador to Belarus Stephen Eriksson, academician Radzim Haretski, creators of the standard of the state emblem “Pahonia” Aliaksei Marachkin and Leu Talbuzin and many others.
