In the village of Melenki in the Moscow region of the Russian Federation, an unknown person opened fire on the car of Russian army colonel Nikita Klenkov on Wednesday. Klenkov, who was driving, was killed. The shooter managed to escape and is being sought by the police.
As Radio Liberty reports with a reference to TASS, 44-year-old Klenkov returned from the war in Ukraine just a week ago. He held the position of deputy commander of a military unit.
According to the investigation, the killer was also driving a car. When he drew level with Klenkov's car, he fired several times through the side window. Klenkov died on the spot, his car crashed into a fence. The shooter drove away.
The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under articles on murder and illegal arms trafficking.
The publication “Important Stories” claims that Klenkov served in the GRU special forces and held a high position. According to the leaks, the murdered man served in military unit 43292 — this is the Special Operations Forces Training Center. He was registered at the address of this center in the city of Solnechnogorsk-2. In addition, according to the geolocation data of the leaks, Klenkov ordered food delivery to the GRU headquarters, and also visited a clinic near the GRU building. The place where he was killed is about 20 minutes' drive from the Special Operations Forces Training Center.
No one has yet claimed involvement in the murder.
