Lithuania Finds Way To Reduce Queues At Border Before New Year’s Holidays

Previously, the length of the queue before the holidays could reach 23 kilometers.

The Lithuanian government is introducing mandatory pre-registration for truck drivers planning to enter the country from December. This measure is aimed at reducing the significant queues that have formed at the border with Belarus, according to the local publication LRT.

Registration will begin on December 1, and drivers will be able to arrive at the waiting area closer to the scheduled time, avoiding long hours of waiting in line without proper conditions. To use the electronic queue, you will need to pay a registration fee.

“Pre-registration of all trucks in the electronic queue is an important measure to improve the overall level of security on the border with Belarus and Russia. And so that kilometer-long queues of trailers no longer form at our border points,” the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communications notes.

According to the Ministry, the longest queues are recorded at the border with Belarus in December and April, before the Christmas and Easter holidays. Previously, the maximum length of the queue reached 23 kilometers, in which 900 trucks were waiting.
