He has been seen in France and Belgium.
The migrant, suspected of fatally wounding Polish sergeant Mateusz Sitek through the fence on the Belarusian-Polish border, is in the European Union. Recently he appeared in France and Belgium, General Arkadiusz Szkutnik, commander of the operation ‘Safe Podlasie’, told the Wp.pl portal.
‘This person has been identified. We have his photo, we know where he was, where he appears. New signals indicate that recently he was in the countries of Western Europe, including France and Belgium,’ said Szkutnik.
The general also said that Polish services had identified and compiled a list of 42 of the most dangerous migrants who attacked soldiers with stones and slingshots. Sitek's killer tops that list. Szkutnik believes that his detention is a matter of time.
Earlier there was information that a Polish soldier was killed by a Moroccan citizen. This was reported to activists by a migrant, who illegally crossed the Belarusian-Polish border and applied for international protection. The Polish services have not officially commented on this information, writes MOST.
21-year-old Mateusz Sitek, a soldier of the 1st Warsaw Tank Brigade, died in the Military Medical Institute in Warsaw on June 6 from a wound, received during the service on May 28. At that time, a group of about 50 migrants stormed the border. They behaved aggressively, throwing tree branches, sticks and stones at border guards. One of them had a knife attached to a stick. He used it to stab a Polish soldier through the fence. A female colleague started to render him first aid, but then the migrants attacked her as well. The soldier was hospitalised, but despite the doctors' efforts, he could not be saved. The moment of the fatal wound was caught on surveillance camera, which made it possible to draw up a portrait of the soldier and identify him with the help of other migrants.
Poland demanded from Belarus to identify and extradite the migrant responsible for the murder.
