The "prime minister" is also leaving his post.
On November 19, Aslan Bzhania, the "head" of the unrecognized "republic" of Abkhazia, resigned in agreement with the opposition. His press service published the corresponding statement.
The published document, addressed to the speaker of parliament, states that Bzhania is leaving his post "to maintain stability and constitutional order in the country."
His resignation statement will be considered by the Abkhaz "parliament" on November 19. Protesters are currently occupying the building.
Bzhania's press service also published the text of the agreement between the authorities and the opposition, signed by both parties following the negotiations. According to the agreement, opposition supporters must leave the government buildings they have occupied in the center of Sukhumi and disperse. Otherwise, Bzhania will withdraw his statement.
"Vice President" Badra Gunba is appointed acting "president" of Abkhazia. In addition to Bzhania, the "prime minister" of the unrecognized "republic" Alexander Ankvab is also leaving his post. His duties will be performed by Valery Bganba, who previously held this position.
Recall that on November 15, mass protests took place near the government building complex in Sukhumi. Protesters rammed a truck through the gates of the "parliament" and the "presidential" administration and entered the buildings. They spoke out against the ratification of the investment agreement with Russia. According to the opposition, the document was written in favour of large Russian investors and will harm local businesses. Under their pressure, the authorities promised to withdraw the bill.
