Liechtenstein Imposes Sanctions Against Lukashenka Regime

To close a loophole for bypassing anti-Russian sanctions.

Liechtenstein has expanded sanctions against the Belarusian authorities and brought them into line with the latest EU sanctions package adopted on June 29, 2024, and synchronized them with the restrictions imposed on Russia. The Liechtenstein government reported on its website.

The government of the country made the decision to expand restrictions (financial, commodity and trade) on November 19, 2024. This was done in order to prevent the bypassing of sanctions against Russia through Belarus.

The key elements of the sanctions include a ban on the export of dual-use goods and technologies, maritime goods, and luxury goods to Belarus. The import of gold, diamonds, helium, coal, and oil (including crude) from Belarus is also prohibited. A ban has been introduced on the provision of certain services, and restrictions on road freight transport across the territory of the European Union have been expanded.

In addition, EU economic operators are required to include in future contracts a clause prohibiting re-export to Belarus.
