The sentence was not just a prison term.
On November 26, the court of Maskouski district of Minsk announced the verdict of the former crisis manager in the bankruptcy case of OJSC ‘Biaroza silicate products plant’. Mikalai Kotsel was found guilty of taking a bribe on a particularly large scale, reported the state STV channel.
The plant was at the bankruptcy stage, and the main task of the head was to restore its solvency. However, as the court found, the ex-director used his official position for his own interests. He managed to reduce the value of the company by half at a meeting of creditors so that it would meet the demands of a potential buyer. For this ‘favour’ the man was promised a reward of over one million roubles.
Once part of the bribe was in his pocket, he was detained.
The court found the defendant guilty under Part 3 of Article 430 of the Criminal Code (Receiving a bribe on a large scale). He was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment in a reinforced regime colony, as well as a fine of 5,000 basic units (Br200,000). In addition, the man was banned from holding managerial positions related to administrative and economic functions for 5 years.
