The priority version of the disaster has been named.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, there were 69 people, including five crew members, on board the Embraer 190AR aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines, which crashed near Aktau.

According to preliminary information, 29 passengers, including two children, survived, as they were closer to the tail of the plane. The list of the dead is still being clarified, but preliminary data indicate that the flight crew did not survive the incident.

More than 700 employees and 82 units of equipment from the civil defense services are involved in the liquidation of the consequences of the disaster. The Minister of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Kamaladdin Fattah oglu Heydarov, arrived in Aktau.

A Republican headquarters was created on the basis of the Emergencies Ministry Command Center, which included representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Transport, the National Guard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other departments, as reported by the APA agency.

The plane was flying from Baku to Grozny, but due to unfavorable weather conditions it was redirected first to Makhachkala and then to Aktau. While approaching the Aktau airport, it crashed and caught fire. Rescuers managed to quickly extinguish the fire.

“Before the crash, the crew reported to dispatchers about the failure of one of the main systems. It sent a distress signal and then the plane disappeared from radar screens. Thus, the version of a technical malfunction is now being considered as a priority,” a source from the emergency services told the Interfax agency.
