The opening of the reconstructed Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris is due to take place on Saturday, December 7.
Trump said on his Truth Social online platform that he would be ‘honoured’ to visit the ‘magnificent and historic’ building.
He also praised French President Emmanuel Macron for ‘doing a wonderful job ensuring that Notre Dame has been restored to its full level of glory, and more’.
‘It's going to be a special day for everyone!’ Trump added.
According to people informed about the planning of such a trip, the issue has been discussed by Trump's team and Macron's office for days.
Also, a US media source said the leaders had at least one phone conversation.
Current US President Joe Biden is not expected to be at the Notre Dame de Paris opening. However, first lady Jill Biden is expected to attend the event, one ‘informed person’ told Western press.
