Russian occupiers tortured mayor of Dniprorudne, Zaporizhzhia region Yevhen Matveyev to death in captivity.

This was reported on the Telegram channel by the chairman of the Zaporizhzhhia Regional State Administration Ivan Fedorov, Censor.NET reports.

He recalled that the Russians captured Dniprorudne, Zaporizhzhia region, at the end of February 2022. And later they also captured the mayor, Yevhen Matveyev. He was held captive by the occupiers for 2 years and 8 months and was tortured. During the last exchange, his body was returned to Ukraine.

“Yevhen Serhiyovich was a true patriot, not indifferent to the fate of his country and his community. He always worked with people and for the sake of people, heard and helped everyone who needed it. He was strong-willed and principled. During the occupation, he did not leave the city or the people, he did everything to ensure the life of the community, he constantly informed the population about the course of events and supported the people.

There are no words to express all the pain of loss. We have no time to hesitate. Every day, Russia commits terror against our people — true patriots,” Fedorov noted.
