Lukashenka’s Ex-Security Guard Appointed To Head Major Bank

Chepikau headed Belgazprombank.

The Bureau learned that in August 2024, former employee of Lukashenka's Security Service Siarhei Chepikau took the position of CEO at Belgazprombank.

This was not reported publicly anywhere. There is no mention of a new director on the Belgazprombank website. This is not the first time that Lukashenka's ex-security guard has become a director of a major bank.

According to data received from CyberPartizans, Siarhei Chepikau worked in the Security Service of Aliaksandr Lukashenka from at least 2005 to 2021. In February 2020, he received the “Will for Victory” award in an interdepartmental billiards tournament for the Presidential Security Service team.

The Bureau called Siarhei Chepikau, and he confirmed his appointment. When asked why he received the director's position at Belgazprombank, Chepikau replied:

“Well, probably because I deserve it.”

According to Chepikau, he did not work in the Presidential Security Service specifically as “Lukashenka's bodyguard”. But he did not want to say what he did in this structure. Chepikau came to Lukashenka's Security Service from the Belarusian army, where he served, among other things, in the Canine Center. One of the tasks of the structure is to train personnel to protect various special facilities.

This is not the first appointment of former employees of Lukashenka's Security Service to senior positions in banks.
