One of the defenders believes that he either wanted to hurt himself to avoid surrendering or to deceive the Ukrainian fighters:
‘Later our brothers-in-arms said that he was well received. They provided him with medical assistance, fed him. He also asked for some love films to be shown to him,' the Ukrainian fighters said.
