Drones Strike Russia’s 4th Largest Oil Refinery

A powerful fire broke out in the Nizhny Novgorod region in Russia.

On the night of January 28-29, drones attacked an oil depot in the city of Kstovo in the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia. This was reported by the Russian publication Astra.

“Drones attacked the Nizhny Novgorod region. According to preliminary data, eyewitnesses report that the oil depot in Kstovo was hit. A fire started there,” the report reads.

It is in this city that the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery is located, which was already attacked almost a year ago

At the same time, the Mash Telegram channel noted that Russian air defence stopped several UAVs in the sky, but a fire was visible in the enterprise area.

The governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Gleb Nikitin said that only drone debris fell on the territory of the enterprise.

"As a result of repelling a UAV attack, fragments of the drone fell onto the territory of one of the enterprises of the Kstovskaya industrial zone. Firefighters are currently working to extinguish the fire," Nikitin wrote.

Local residents quickly began posting photos of large tongues of flame that engulfed the oil refinery online.

Almost a year ago, on March 12, this refinery was already attacked by drones. Then the drones destroyed one of the oil refining units. For a long time, the plant was idle, carrying out repair work.

It is known that by the end of 2022, the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery processed 15 million tons of oil, or 5% of the total oil refining volume in the Russian Federation as a whole. This plant is the fourth largest in terms of oil production in the Russian Federation.
