'Are They Crazy?': Russians Launch Head-On Assault Near Kursk, Suffer Catastrophic Losses

Russian soldiers flee in panic, meeting the resistance of the Ukrainian forces.

Russian marines and paratroopers throw their armored vehicles directly at the positions of the Ukrainian military in the Kursk region and flee in panic, meeting the resistance of the 47th Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, equipped with American M-2 combat vehicles, Forbes writes.

The consequence of such attacks is only a growing number of destroyed vehicles.

"The Russians are desperately trying to liberate the Kursk region and are suffering huge losses," said Ukrainian Marine Corps drone operator Kriegsforscher, whose unit is defending the same sector as the 47th Brigade.

However, despite significant losses, this does not mean that Russia is losing the war of conquest, which lasts for the fourth year. Ukraine does not spend so much equipment in pointless attacks, but it itself faces serious difficulties on the stretched front line.

During the three-day assault, which began on January 18 with the participation of the 155th Separate Marine Infantry Brigade and the 234th Air Assault Regiment of the Russian Federation, 14 IFVs and BMDs, as well as three T-80 tanks, were destroyed. Another assault, which took place on Tuesday or shortly before, ended for the Russian Federation with the loss of at least four tanks, combat vehicles and one pickup truck.

The Russians Failed Putin's Order

Ukrainian forces swiftly broke through to Kursk back in August, capturing 250 square miles of territory near Sudzha. Putin ordered his troops and North Korean reinforcements to dislodge the Ukrainians by February. However, even having an advantage of 60,000 against 20,000 troops, Russian-North Korean units were able to achieve only insignificant tactical successes, the newspaper writes.

The failures of the occupiers are evidenced by numerous burnt-out remnants of equipment near Nikolskoye, a village defended by the 47th Mechanized Brigade.

Tuesday's fighting was a typical example of Russian tactics. The assault group on armored vehicles, tanks and even a pickup truck moved to attack in broad daylight along the same roads as before. Ukrainian drones quickly stopped the column, after which the attack drones attacked the equipment, and the M-2 of the 47th Brigade finished off the remaining 25-mm rapid-fire guns. Drones finally destroyed other vehicles, including a pickup truck.

“Aren't they sick and tired?” Kriegsforscher wonders, “I really don't understand the point of attacking in the same place where they attack the third month.”

At the same time, he admits that Russian troops managed to achieve minimal success in the vicinity of the performance. “They continue to fight and advance.”

The losses of the Russian Federation and its allies are catastrophic. According to Ukrainian officials, 30,000 Russian troops have already been killed or wounded near Kursk. Among the North Koreans, casualties reached 4,000, including high-ranking officers. Due to the lack of armored vehicles, some Russian units are forced to attack civilian passenger cars.

This level of losses gives rise to serious problems in the military command of the Russian Federation. The Kremlin expects that the situation in Ukraine is even worse - and, perhaps, not groundless.
