The bodies of 18 victims have already been taken out of the Potomac River.
United States President Donald Trump has reacted to the crash of a Bombardier CRJ700 passenger plane and a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter near Washington, D.C., which happened on 30 January, CBS News writes.
In a post on Truth Social, he called the situation ‘bad’ and emphasised that the crash could have been prevented.
‘The plane was on a perfect and familiar line of approach to the airport. The helicopter was flying straight at the aircraft for a long time. It was a clear night, the lights on the plane were on. Why didn't the helicopter go up or return, why didn't the control tower tell the helicopter what to do instead of asking if they could see the aircraft. This is a bad situation that looks like it could have been prevented!!!’ he wrote.
According to the publication, the bodies of 18 victims have already been lifted from the Potomac River. Police said no survivors have been found yet. The search and rescue operation is complicated by the cold and strong wind.
As Charter97.org reported, the passenger plane crashed in Washington, D.C., colliding with a helicopter. The passenger list included 60 people and four crew members. Three military men were on board the helicopter.
The FAA said the Bombardier CRJ700 was on a scheduled flight from Wichita, Kansas, to Washington, DC.
Surveillance video shows the aircraft coming in for a landing at Ronald Reagan Airport. The plane crashed into another aircraft, and an explosion followed.
