Prosecutor General's Office Of Lithuania Warns Producers Of ‘New Belarus Passport’ About Criminal Liability

The so-called document may violate Lithuanian law.

Zerkalo has obtained a letter from the Deputy Prosecutor General of Lithuania Gintas Ivanauskas, sent to the “passport department” of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's office. In the letter, the prosecutor notes: since the “passport of the new Belarus” is not recognized by the Lithuanian authorities today, its production and use may potentially violate local legislation.

“The new passports of Belarusian citizens planned for production and issuance, until these personal documents are recognized in accordance with the procedure established by the laws of the Republic of Lithuania, will be considered invalid documents that do not give the owner of such a passport any rights to legally obtain a temporary residence permit in Lithuania,” the letter says.

In the letter, Ivanauskas notes that Article 300 of the Criminal Code of Lithuania provides for liability for the production or use of a knowingly counterfeit identity document.
