Ankara has set certain conditions for the ‘Kurdistan Workers’ Party’.
Turkey may launch a military operation in Syria against Kurdish armed formations. Ankara has set certain conditions for the ‘Kurdistan Workers’ Party’, which it considers a terrorist organisation.
This was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, reports CNN Türk.
The Turkish official emphasised that Syria must ‘solve the YPG problem’.
‘We as a state have been working on this issue for years. Now, with the new reality, we continue our course with different scenarios. The most important one is: the new administration in Syria must now obviously accept this problem and take the necessary measures to ensure the national integrity and regional integrity of their country,’ he said.
The Turkish foreign minister also commented on ‘ultimatums or conditions’ for Kurdish groups inside Syria.
‘If you don't want a military operation in the region either by our administration or by the new administration in Syria, the conditions for that are clear. We present these conditions very simply, truthfully, without hiding anything or anyone. What are our conditions for you? International terrorists from other countries leave the country. The leadership personnel of the Kurdistan Workers' Party must leave the country. The leadership of the terrorist organisation must leave Syria,’ Fidan revealed.
He added that on the other hand, Syrian Kurds who are not members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party should participate and live a normal life without any damage to their lives and property.
‘That is, the new Syrian administration guarantees us that. Because this is among our conditions,’ the Turkish minister said in a statement.
He notes that the lives and property of Syrian and Kurdish citizens ‘will also be safe and they will join the new administration - they will exist there as equal citizens.’
‘If what is expected is not done with regard to the YPG terrorist organisation, whatever is necessary will be done. This is a military operation,’ the Turkish foreign minister said.
Fidan said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had said it ‘once, and will say it a second time’.
‘But if there are no results, the legitimate choice will be a military operation (in Syria - ed.),’ the Turkish minister emphasised.
