The military believes that the US president's concessions are a disregard for their victims.

American volunteers who are fighting alongside the Ukrainian forces have spoken out sharply against US President Donald Trump's peace initiatives in negotiations with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The fighters note that Ukraine's future cannot be a 'business agreement', writes The Telegraph.

Since President Volodymyr Zelensky created the International Legion three years ago, hundreds of former US soldiers have joined the fight on the side of Ukraine.

Many reacted with indignation to recent reports of a private phone call between Trump and Putin. According to some reports, he allegedly ruled out the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO and effectively recognized Russia's right to hold temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories.

“F--- Trump and his sh---y supposed peace deal,” said Ryan O’Leary, an Iraq war veteran who leads Chosen Company, one of the largest foreign volunteer units in Ukraine.

He stressed:

“Any peace deal is ultimately up to Ukrainians alone, who should be included directly in talks. Neither Trump nor his administration should have any say in how the war ends. Only the soldiers and the Ukrainian people should have that say, not some jackass and his jackass cabinet members sitting behind their white picket-fenced houses on a golf course.”

Former U.S. soldiers make up one of the largest groups of Western volunteers in Ukraine. At least 50 have lost their lives in combat, while many others have returned home with severe injuries.

Veterans say Trump’s concessions are a slight to their sacrifices, as well as the sacrifices of their Ukrainian brethren, and this is reflected in their outspoken and emotional statements.

One of the most ardent American supporters of Ukraine is Alex Drueke, an Iraq veteran from Alabama who was captured by Russian forces during his first volunteer mission in Ukraine in June 2022.

He endured almost four months in captivity, suffering beatings, electric shock torture, and threats of execution as a mercenary.

Expressing his fears about Trump’s possible concessions, Drueke said:

“I fear he will demand a lot of concessions from Ukraine while demanding none from Russia, and there will be no security guarantees to stop Putin re-arming and invading again.”

He also added: “My advice to Ukraine is to fight to the last woman and child, as Putin is going to wipe Ukraine off the map anyway. I say that, even if I have to go back and fight myself.”
