In recent days, the dust level has exceeded the norm.

In recent days, Belarusians have been complaining about a large amount of dust. The Ministry of Natural Resources explained what is wrong with the air in many Belarusian cities. Officials complain about the lack of significant precipitation in early March.

“Dry, windless weather led to an increase in the amount of dust (particulate matter) in the air,” the Ministry of Natural Resources said in a statement. “The sources of dust in the air are both natural and anthropogenic... Also, the transfer of smoke from fires in natural ecosystems plays a significant role in the formation of air pollution levels in the cities of the republic.”

The dispersion of dust was “impeded by the presence of temperature inversion.” As a result, “pollutants” accumulated in the lower layers of the atmosphere. “In order to reduce anthropogenic load and regulate emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere, large industrial and motor transport enterprises in certain cities have been sent warnings about unfavorable meteorological conditions that contribute to the accumulation of pollutants in the ground layer of air,” officials said.
