Belarusians Celebrate Freedom Day In Guerrilla Style

The holiday lives even inside the country.

Every year on March 25, Belarusians organize rallies, marches, concerts and other events in honor of Freedom Day. For more than 30 years, actions took place in Minsk and other cities, even when it was very dangerous. And today, as Belarusians themselves note in the country, even secretly, the holiday still lives.

“Freedom Day is the day when Belarusians made the first attempt to proclaim their independence, to declare that we exist, that we are a separate nation. And this is a holiday that we must celebrate. And if now we do not have the opportunity to go out and walk under our flag, because it is dangerous, this does not mean that we do not celebrate it. We gather in the kitchen, organize our own events, and meet with friends. Today, in our thoughts, we are together with all free Belarusians, wherever they are. And we still believe that we can and will win,” Mikhail from Minsk told Belsat.
