Owner Of Russia's Largest Agricultural Holding Detained in Moscow
VADIM MOSHKOVICH

His fortune was estimated at $2.3 billion.

The founder of the Rusagro holding and former senator Vadim Moshkovich has been detained. Searches are being conducted in his company's offices in Moscow and Belgorod. The 57-year-old Moshkovich himself is planned to be interrogated. This is reported by the Telegram channels Baza and Shot. The Shot channel claims that the businessman has been charged with fraud on an especially large scale (Article 159, Part 4), and faces up to 10 years in prison. One of the reasons for the detention of billionaire Moshkovich is suspicion of seizing assets of the large oil and fat holding Solnechnye Produkty worth more than 1 billion rubles. Timur Lipatov, CEO of Rusagro, was detained along with Vadim Moshkovich.

Moshkovich began his career importing sugar in the 1990s. In 2004, he founded the company Rusagro, which occupies a leading position in the production of sugar, butter, and meat. Moshkovich's company is among the top 5 largest landowners in Russia, it owns 700 thousand hectares of land. According to INFOLine research, in 2023, the largest agricultural holding was Rusagro, whose revenue amounted to 277.3 billion rubles (all data excluding VAT), an increase of 15%.

Moshkovich served as a senator from the Belgorod region. His fortune was estimated at $ 2.3 billion. He is under sanctions from the European Union and Great Britain. The owner of Rusagro unsuccessfully tried to challenge the sanctions and the deprivation of his Cypriot citizenship.

Last year, Moshkovich was complained about in the State Duma. The Ministry of Justice was asked to include him in the list of foreign agents, the Izvestia newspaper wrote. The appeal to the ministry was sent by deputies Anatoly Greshnevikov, Mikhail Delyagin, Elena Drapeko and Oleg Nilov. Delyagin explained that the “oligarch” had made quite a few statements that could be interpreted as anti-Russian. “But he is doing well, he is doing great, he has a big business, as I understand it, moved offshore,” he explained. Delyagin noted that if someone has an offshore and manages Russian business through it, then he is dependent on Western intelligence services.
