160,000 new recruits will be sent to the Russian army.
Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the spring conscription for military service. According to the published document, 160,000 new recruits will be sent to the army during the campaign, which will run from April to June. In accordance with current legislation, citizens aged 18 to 30 are subject to conscription.
The Russian dictator instructed the government, regional executive authorities and conscription commissions to organize all necessary measures for the timely and effective implementation of the conscription plan.
The upcoming campaign will be the largest in the past 14 years. The last time a larger number of new recruits was recorded was in 2011, when the Russian Defense Ministry called up 203,000 people. In the autumn of that year, only 135,000 people were called up. Since 2012, the number of spring and autumn conscriptions has not exceeded 155.5 thousand recruits. For comparison, 134,650 people were sent to the army in the spring of 2021, and 127,500 in the autumn of the same year.
In the first year of the war with Ukraine, 134,500 people were sent to serve in the spring, and 120,000 in the fall. However, in 2023, 147 thousand were already called up for service in spring, and 130 thousand in autumn. In 2024, this dynamic continued: the spring conscription amounted to 150 thousand people, the autumn conscription — 133 thousand.
