From Backman to Cloud Atlas
The list of printed publications banned from distribution in Belarus has grown by 27 more books, bringing the total to 92. This was reported by the Ministry of Information.
According to the ministry's statement, the decision to prohibit their distribution in the country was made by the Republican Commission for the Evaluation of Symbols, Attributes, and Information Products. The commission concluded that "all these publications are capable of harming the national interests of our country."
Among the newly banned books are three works by popular Swedish author Fredrik Backman about a youth hockey team: Beartown, Us Against You, and The Winners. Also banned is the Foxhole Court trilogy by Nora Sakavic, which includes The Foxhole Court, The Raven King, and The King's Men.
The list also features Jeffrey Eugenides' The Virgin Suicides, David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas, Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and Michael Cunningham's A Home at the End of the World.
