The Ukrainian Armed Forces are using new tactics.
The Russian occupation forces continue to suffer huge losses with minimal territorial “successes” in Ukraine. This was informed by military analyst Oleksandr Kovalenko in his new report, published on his Telegram channel.
The capture is tiny — the losses are colossal
As of March 31, 2025, according to Kovalenko, the Russian occupying forces captured only 130 km² of Ukrainian territory. This is one of the lowest figures since the beginning of 2024. At the same time, the number of personnel losses reached 39,620 people. Thus, for every square kilometer of captured territory, there are on average 304 dead Russian soldiers — the equivalent of three full companies.
Since the beginning of the year, the situation looks even more depressing for the Russian forces. In three months, they have advanced only 640 km², losing 124,430 people. This means an average of 194 bodies per square kilometer, a sharp decline from 2024, when the rate was 129 dead per square kilometer.
Declining quality, rising costs
The military expert emphasizes that the quality of personnel replenishment is declining, which leads to even greater losses during breakthrough attempts. The proportion of dead is growing both monthly and quarterly. For example, if in January 2025 there were 148 dead per square kilometer, then by March this figure had already exceeded 300.
Ukraine finds a tactical response
Against these figures, the Ukrainian army demonstrates success in adapting and applying new tactics. Although the common front remains difficult, the data shows that the offensive potential of the Russian occupying forces is declining, and the cost of advancement is becoming completely disproportionate to its results.
Thus, the March figures become yet another confirmation of the obvious: the Russian army is stalling, paying in blood for every meter and losing the ability to conduct large-scale operations, despite all the Kremlin’s efforts to maintain an offensive tempo.
