Shmyhal: I Firmly Believe Ukraine Will Join EU Immediately After War Ends

Ukraine is actively working to achieve this goal.

Ukraine wants to make progress in accession negotiations with the European Union this year. The country expects to join the bloc immediately after the war ends.

This was stated by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

According to Shmyhal, Ukraine and the EU have completed bilateral screening in three negotiation clusters: “Fundamentals”, “Internal Market”, and “External Relations”. Ukraine expects these negotiation clusters to be opened in the first half of 2025.

“In 2025, our goal is to open all six clusters of accession negotiations simultaneously. We are actively working to achieve this goal. I am confident that there are no real obstacles to achieving it — only political will and a common commitment to hard work are needed,” the prime minister emphasized.

He recalled that Ukraine has proven that it can move “with unprecedented speed” and achieve results not in years, but in months.

“I firmly believe that Ukraine will become a member of the EU immediately after the end of a full-scale war,” Shmyhal noted.
