The new tariffs will take effect on April 12.
China is raising tariffs on US goods from 84% to 125% on April 12. This was announced by the Chinese Ministry of Finance, Bloomberg reports.
Beijing announced this decision two days after US President Donald Trump said it was raising tariffs on imported goods from China to 125%.
The statement from the Chinese Ministry of Finance says that if Washington continues to “significantly infringe on China’s interests,” Beijing will continue to take countermeasures and “will fight to the end.”
In March, Trump set tariffs on China at 20%. On April 2, he imposed 34% tariffs on Chinese goods. Beijing responded in kind. Trump then added another 50%, increasing the total tariffs to 104%. On April 9, Beijing repeated this move, bringing the total tariffs to 84%. Trump, in turn, announced an increase in duties on Chinese goods to 125%.
