IDF Radically Change Their Strategy For Gaza Operation

A serious emphasis has been placed on the formation of strategic axes.

The Israel Defense Forces continue to conduct large-scale operations in the Gaza Strip, despite previously declared successes and a significant number of destroyed terrorist infrastructure facilities.

However, against the backdrop of recent events, questions have once again become acute regarding the reliability of intelligence, the level of control over the territory, and the ability of Hamas to restore its activities even after massive strikes. This was reported by Cursor with reference to the Walla publication.

It was in these areas that Hamas managed to restore some of its facilities, convert buildings into command centers, and reuse underground infrastructure, which indicates serious intelligence shortcomings and an insufficient level of control after the completion of operations.

The problem of destroying tunnels remains relevant — even after strikes, there is no complete certainty that the underground communications were completely destroyed.

The IDF has previously claimed to have destroyed Hamas' underground network, known as the “Metro”, but in reality the underground complexes remain operational, and much of it has only been discovered and destroyed in recent days. This again casts doubt on the accuracy of the official statements made at the start of the conflict.

The collapse of the ceasefire agreement has led to renewed maneuvers. The tactics, led by Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, are based on holding territory for a long time rather than raids that allow the terrorists to recuperate. The emphasis is on aggressive engineering work and the gradual establishment of control. This requires significant resources, time, and coordination between units.

A strong emphasis is placed on the formation of strategic axes, in particular the Morag axis, which has isolated Rafah from Khan Yunis. This allows the Gaza Strip to be cut, limiting the movement of militants, and ensuring a more effective cleansing operation. Strikes are carried out daily: headquarters, weapons depots, tunnels are being destroyed, commanders of Hamas units are being eliminated, including those who participated in the attack on October 7. At the same time, pinpoint reconnaissance is used, according to which massive airstrikes are carried out every 24-48 hours. According to the latest data, Israeli forces control about 30% of the territory of the sector, while the ultimate goal is to occupy more than half.

This is necessary to weaken the position of Hamas, reduce their combat capabilities and limit access to logistics routes. The frequency of operations is increasing, the army is operating simultaneously in several areas, including in the north and in Rafah. Both infrastructure facilities and the militants themselves are being destroyed.
