The ceremony is taking place in Jerusalem's Church of the Resurrection.
The annual ceremony of the descent of the Holy Fire in Jerusalem's Church of the Resurrection will take place on April 19, on the eve of Easter. The event began at 10:15 Jerusalem and Minsk time.
A number of YouTube channels are broadcasting live from Jerusalem.
The procession led by the Armenian Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem will first go around the Edicule (the main altar), and then proceed to the Armenian Side Altar.
At 11:00, the ceremonial sealing of the Holy Sepulchre will begin.
At around 12:10, the Armenian Orthodox clergy, together with the clergy of the Coptic and Syriac Churches, will leave the Armenian Sacristy for the Altar of the Katholikon, where they will traditionally address the Greek Orthodox Patriarch.
At around 12:20, a minister of the Greek Patriarchate will bring a lamp, tightly closed in accordance with the rite, into the Edicule.
At 12:30, the procession of the Greek Orthodox clergy will begin, which will circle the Edicule three times. After the procession, the Patriarch will undress before entering the shrine, and his co-clergy will help him prepare to enter for prayer.
At 12:55, the Greek Patriarch, together with the Archimandrite, will enter the Edicule to light candles from the Holy Fire, after which the fire will be passed on to the faithful.
At 13:10, the Patriarch and the clergy will leave the shrine. After this, a procession with the cross will begin with the participation of the Armenian Orthodox clergy, who will accompany the Coptic and Syriac Orthodox communities.
The end of the Armenian part of the ceremony is scheduled for 14:30.
