Every day of delay means more victims of Lukashenka's terror.
The head of the European Parliament's delegation for relations with Belarus, MEP from Poland Malgorzata Gosiewska, gave a powerful speech in the European Parliament. She called on Brussels to immediately put pressure on Lukashenka to release political prisoners. Charter97.org publishes the text of the speech:
“Here, in the heart of Europe, we must say it out loud: Belarus is Europe's bleeding wound! Viktoryja Kulsha — 1,605 days in captivity! Volha Mayorava — 1,544 days in captivity! Alena Hnauk — 1,172 days in captivity! These women are not prisoners, they are hostages of the Lukashenka regime!
Viktoryja Kulsha is dying before our eyes. She is going through the hell of torture! Suicide attempts, starvation, exhaustion of her body and psyche. The prison administration has turned the prison into a 21st century concentration camp.
Volha Mayorava is losing her sight, but she is denied treatment. The regime has declared her a “terrorist” so that it can slowly kill her.
Alena Hnauk does not know that her children have fled persecution. She is cut off the world, cruelly exploited, they are trying to deprive her of her dignity.
And Andrzej Poczobut? Belarusian and Polish journalist, prisoner of conscience. Locked in a maximum security prison, subjected to psychological and physical repression just because he is the voice of truth!
Europe must act immediately! Every day of delay means more victims of Lukashenka's terror. We demand the immediate release of political prisoners! We demand sanctions, we demand the isolation of the regime!
We must fight — for the truth, for freedom, for the lives of those who are today Lukashenka's hostages!
