Putin Multiplies Fakes

His strategic goal remains unchanged.
Putin's false “Easter truce” began with a drone strike on a residential building in Kherson and ended with missile and artillery attacks on Kherson and Mykolaiv. The Russian Defense Ministry officially announced that the war against Ukraine “continued”, although Russian attacks did not stop throughout Sunday.
Of course, this was an attempt to manipulate public opinion in the West. After scandals related, in particular, to Washington's blocking of the G7 statement on the mass killings of Ukrainian civilians, Putin needed the appearance of “aspiration for peace.”
President Donald Trump announced the possibility of reaching some agreements this week. The Wall Street Journal writes that Ukraine was allegedly given proposals according to which the United States could recognize the annexation of the Crimea, and Kyiv could refuse to join NATO. Negotiations are scheduled to take place in London in the coming days.
However, it should be remembered that Moscow's interest is to drag out time as much as possible — without provoking the US to withdraw from the negotiations. Putin will multiply fakes, announcing imaginary peace initiatives like the “Easter truce” and putting forward new conditions, avoiding specifics and avoiding final decisions.
His strategic goal remains unchanged — to undermine Ukrainian statehood. This is precisely what we need to proceed from both when analyzing any peace initiatives and in any conversation with Moscow.
