It became known what will change for Belarusians.
Poland will revise the rules of issuing Pole cards and analyse the scope and method to support the holders of this document, who move to the country. This is stipulated by the government's strategy for co-operation with Polonia (emigrants from Poland and their descendants) and other Poles abroad, MOST writes.
The strategy proposes to eliminate cases of abuse when issuing Polonia cards, especially the falsification of documents of Polish origin.
The strategy calls for abolishing the possibility of obtaining a Pole card on the basis of activity in Polish organisations. In fact, this way of issuing the document is already closed. Instead, it is proposed to emphasise the applicant's knowledge of the Polish language and culture.
It is also planned to analyse support measures for Pole card holders who move to Poland.
In addition, it is planned to move away from the ‘very liberal principles’ of obtaining Polish citizenship. In order to obtain citizenship, a foreigner will have to prove that he or she has integrated into Polish society and has a good command of the Polish language.
The strategy also envisages maintaining ties with Poles and people of Polish origin living outside Poland. The authors of the document estimate that there are about 20 million of them. The government envisages assistance in learning the Polish language, civic and patriotic education, preservation of identity and ties with Poland, humanitarian and medical assistance, especially for the elderly.
There are also plans to facilitate education, employment and resettlement of such people in Poland.
